Fasting – Journey To The Cross

This sermon begins our 8-week series called “Journey to the Cross.” In this opening message, Pastor Erik teaches us the biblical perspective on fasting and then challenges us to fast something for the next forty days, leading up to Easter. It’s not about “sacrificing” something for God; Jesus is our sacrifice. It’s about creating space in our lives for God to fill so that we might experience a greater intimacy with Him.

Just As I Am

Jesus knows us as we are, where we are, and what we have done. There’s no point in hiding, and that is why He doesn’t call us to clean ourselves up before we come to Him. He simply calls us to come, just as we are. He will do all the cleaning that is needed in His timing and in His ways, if we will only come to Him.

Lasting Treasure

Money is one of the most controversial topics that the Church tries to address, and yet Jesus spoke about it quite frequently. What is at the heart of the issue of money? Our hearts. Are we greedy or are we generous, like God? Do we ask ourselves, “How much of my money will I give to God?” or “How much of God’s money will I keep?”

Made For This

Josiah became king at the age of 8. By age 16, he committed his life to God and began purging the land of idolatry. Because of his passion for serving God, his kingdom was spared the judgement that God had warned was coming. Josiah was made for this moment, and so are you!

Avoiding the Plague Like The Plague

While in the wilderness, the Israelites made an idol of gold shaped like a calf. Perhaps you’ve heard the story? Did you realize that this event took place right after the Israelites saw God descend in power and might? How could they have been so close to God and then turn away so quickly? How can we better avoid sin and the consequences it brings? That’s what we’ll be looking at in today’s message. This is a sermon from Cornerstone Church in Bethalto, IL.
